ANGELES NATIONAL FOREST -- A 31-year-old Glendale man was found dead in Angeles National Forest Saturday morning, after the car he was driving careened off the road and landed several hundred feet down an embankment, California Highway Patrol officials said.

Arsen Narguzyan, also known as Ersen Nirkozian, was last seen by his family on Friday, Glendale Police Sgt. Tom Lorenz said.

"His mother reported him missing when he failed to come home," he said.

At about 8:30 a.m. Saturday, a motorist on the Angeles Crest Highway contacted the California Highway Patrol, and reported that there was a car at the bottom of the embankment, in an area of the forest just north of La Caņada Flintridge, said Mike Leum, with the Montrose Search and Rescue team.

Leum was one of the team's volunteers who helped recover Narguzyan's body Saturday morning.

"A passing motorist pulled out at that turnout, got out of his car and was just enjoying the view when he noticed the car about 400 feet down," he said.

Narguzyan was ejected from the white 2005 Jaguar he was driving and was found about 20 feet from the car, Leum said. Authorities believe the car might have been a rental.

Narguzyan was dead at the scene as a result of multiple traumatic injuries, said Capt. Ed Winter, with the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office.

He was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash, according to the CHP, and struck his head on a rock when he was ejected.

Officials are still investigating when the crash happened and do not know how fast Narguzyan was traveling when he went off the road or what caused him to go over the side.

"The initial opinion of the coroner was that the gentlemen went over the side on Friday evening, based on his condition and the fact that the car was cold," Leum said.

This is not the first time vehicles have gone over the mountain side in that area of the Angeles Crest Highway, Leum said.

"The first few turnouts on that highway, historically, have gotten quite a few accidents that go over the side," he said.
