Teen rescued from debris basin
October 9 2002
LA CRESCENTA -- Members of the Montrose Search and Rescue Team rappelled about
15 feet into a debris basin at the top of Briggs Avenue on Sunday after a
16-year-old was unable to climb out, officials said.
Two teens were walking in the basin when one decided not to continue. The other
continued walking until he reached a spot where he couldn't go up or down, said
Mike Leum, member of the Montrose Search and Rescue Team.
The first teen called authorities for assistance at about 2 p.m., and the teen
had been rescued about 20 minutes later, Leum said. Neither teen suffered any
injuries.
